Mental Health Training by the Public Health Development Service, Manchester Mental Health and Social Care Trust (MPHDS)
Would you like to know more about mental health and wellbeing or stress and mental ill health? Does your work bring you into contact with people who may be suffering from stress or have mental health problems? Would you like training to help you in your role and to improve your service?
All the courses are free, and open to anyone working with residents of Manchester, in the statutory sector, community groups, voluntary sector or other organisations.
All the courses are held in MPHDS's Training Room at Victoria Mill, Miles Platting, Manchester M40 7LJ.

Understanding Mental Health
An introduction to mental health in Manchester and also a basis for further training, for staff or volunteers working with people who are vulnerable to poor mental health (for example, because of poverty, unemployment, poor physical health, insecure housing, discrimination).

Interventions for Mental Health in Everyday Practice
This course is for frontline staff and volunteers working with people who are vulnerable to poor mental health (for example, because of poverty, unemployment, poor physical health, insecure housing, discrimination). Participants will learn how best to help their clients manage their mental health. The course develops practical skills in identifying and responding to distress effectively, using a structured model of support.

Tackling Stress at Work
Does your organisation have a strategy and policy for tackling stress at work? Supervisors and line managers need knowledge and skills to recognise signs of stress, to identify sources of work-related stress and how to address and resolve problems with the staff they manage.

MPHDS can also provide this one-day training course for organisations to help tackle the problem of stress at work. This will be tailored for your organisation, rather than being an open course.
Perinatal Mental Health
This course aims to provide an overview of pre- and post-natal depression, identification and assessment, and to examine referral pathways, treatment and community resources.
The target audience is anyone interested in gaining an awareness of maternal mental health, eg, multidisciplinary teams, primary and secondary care mental health workers, voluntary organisations, health visitors, midwives and Sure Start staff.
